Since opening my small furniture showroom back in May I have learnt a little about what is and what is not selling and then what I enjoy selling.

I am busy sourcing unusual pieces of furniture and accessories from auctions and antique sales.  I have been painting most of them in a shabby chic finish.  I enjoy mixing up greys but I particularly enjoy going all out with an unusual green or red.  The bold colours only compliment the very fashionable industrial and retro look.

Retro – what is retro?
Retro is imitative of a style or fashion from the recent past.  Some of the pieces of retro furniture I have are old pieces that are no longer wanted in their old and worn state, but with a good spruce up and often a lick of paint and some wax ,they are back to their formal glory.

Industrial seems to be anything old and with some metal in it. Metal sideboards, huge old factory lights and dining tables with metal legs, in fact industrial furniture is anything that looks like it should belong in a factory from a bygone era.

I am currently working on a stunning old elm dining table that I am hoping to paint the legs and chairs a funky green – watch this space for more details.

I am pleased to have teamed up with a local carpenter making tables out of old cable reels and using hairpin metal legs.  These tables can be made as dining tables, coffee tables and outdoor tables.  They are all hand made and are a fine example of upcycling old materials into an industrial dining table. Each table is unique as they are made from industrial products so all have different nails, bolts, marks and rust and we always try to minimize their impact without losing the table’s “soul”.

We can also personalise the table tops with laser engraving, such as a logo or special place name.

The tables can be up to 150cm in diameter and are from 4.5cm to 6cm thick and 75 to 77cm tall.
Each table is sanded and treated with at least 4-5 coats of danish oil, linseed oil, hearth oil, varnish or stain.
