The luxury of having more time on ones hands is that I get to go to all the furniture and antique fairs as I used to years ago and source unusual items of furniture.
As I am sure most of you are aware the shabby chic look is still very much in fashion. Mixing old with new is also heavily out there and now with the addition of the industrial look.
This 4′ x 3′ farmhouse table had been in our old office for years and to be honest always covered with paper work and office junk and so its potential was left unnoticed. When we closed the shop and I moved back from overseas it served my family well while we waited for our furniture to arrive. However the furniture entrepreneur in me saw past the old varnished farmhouse table top and pine legs!
With a few hours of elbow grease and some fancy new products that easily take the old vanish off I had the table top back to its stunning original pine in no time. For the legs I wanted quite an industrial grey so I had to mix a Farrow and Ball grey with some grey floor paint and the end colour was perfect. I have left the pine top unwaxed so that the next person can decide if they would like a clear wax that would just seal the stunning old top or an antique pine wax put on it to enrich the colour further. Both of which I sell here online for just £8 a tin.
I then my coincidence stubbled across these metal industrial dining chairs at a fair with oak seats. These chairs add the perfect contemporary mix to this table but can of course be brought separately as a set for £140
The pine farmhouse table has a drawer in one end that is ideal for cutlery or placemats and can seat 4 very comfortably or 6 if you have a couple of small people as 2 chairs can fit down the long side.
